Career vs Job: How to Transition
Hey guys thanks for stopping by here again, I trust you are well and believe you are better than you were the last time. Its the 1st day of the second month in 2018, like finally January has ended (it was a really slow month), I hope we are still in line with the goals we set at the beginning of the month, and to those who are already having mixed feeling about the year, don't give up just yet, you still have about 333 days to achieve your purpose. Okay, don't get bored just yet, that is not what I came her for.
I just learnt something which i think its right I share with you guys. A lot of people may know this but for those who do not please enjoy the read and make sure you learn a thing or two.
I've met a few people who ask me what is your career path? or what do you do? most times I get this things mixed up, I usually never know what exactly to say. Recently someone asked me, Dami where do you work? I answered and the next thing he asked was; do you find a career in that or you intend on changing career path as time goes on? I was speechless for a minute thinking of what to say. He noticed I was clueless and decided to help me out, he told me having a job is not all that is, there is more to life than just doing a 9-5 work everyday and get home frustrated and tired, you shouldn't be doing a job at all where after 5 years you still remain in the same position, you still earn the same amount, you still haven't learnt anything new. After everything I had to read through and get a better knowledge of "career" and "job"
A job is an activity through which an individual can earn money. It is a regular activity in exchange of payment. Little or no education is needed to get a job.
A career on the other hand is the pursuit of a lifelong ambition or the general course of progression towards lifelong goals. It always requires a special level or education, training or skill. A persons career could be likened to his passion. Age doesn't always matter.
Many people always turn their jobs into a career which brings me back to the question i was asked, although it's not always that easy to turn your job into career when you don't even enjoy the job you do.

- Do what you enjoy. You can't make a career out of the job where you frown and complain at every work given to you. You need to first find that which you enjoy doing. I'd say if you're yet to know what you love doing or what your passion is, please pray about it and try different things till you find the one that gives you peace.
- Set goal: Ask yourself questions like, where do I want to be in 3 years working this job?, why I am doing this job? how can I be better at my work? Push to do more, plan yourself, dream big dreams, and do not let anything stop you.
- Take action: After every goal setting, it's time to work work work and more work, make sure you don't stop.
- Network. Networking is one of the keys to making it. Go out, meet people, you can network online, mix with people with the same vision as you.
- Learn more: this is one thing you should never stop doing, to switch from being a regular worker to having a career in what you do, you need to learn. The difference between someone who just works and someone who has a career in their work is the education and what they can offer when it comes to their line of work.
- Get a mentor; get someone who you can talk to, someone that can advise you and put you through in your line of career. To be honest I do not have anyone I talk to or someone I call a "mentor" but its really advisable to get a friend. A mentor does not necessarily need to be someone who is way older, you just get someone in your line of career.
